The Sound of Birth

I love a good Baby Shower, don’t get me wrong! But for me, they miss the mark on what pregnancy celebrations should be about.

When you’re becoming a parent on a budget, baby showers can be an AWESOME way to receive some essential items. But no where in the typical baby shower agenda, is there space to center, and honor the mother that is about to go through the single biggest event of her entire life.

In my opinion, pregnancy celebrations should be focused on the incredible rite of passage it is to give birth, and become a mother. Being surrounded by wise women, and close friends that have birthed before. Sharing wisdom, and crafting items to anchor her through her birth journey.

At the end of the day, all those gifted items will end up donated, or in the trash (I’m looking at you diapers🫣).
What makes the biggest lasting impression is feeling loved, seen, and supported in your journey to motherhood by the ones who have done it before.

Urgency and sound healing do not mix. In fact, sound bowls HATE urgency. They create an abrasive buzzing sound that set my nerves on edge when played too fast 😆 The slower and more intentional I play, the better they sound.

I can’t help but mirror this to our daily life.🪞Think about the way your body feels when it’s busy, on edge, anxious.
The energy emitted from your body turns into static on a TV, scrambled and loud.

Now think of the way your body feels when you move slowly, and thoughtfully. Do you notice the little things more? Do things feel joyful? Do you feel more present in the moment?

Next time you have a busy day, or feel overwhelmed with the tasks at hand, remind yourself that nothing is urgent. Time is our friend 🫱🏼‍🫲🏽🙂‍↔️

I love that I chose a career that asks me to be present, and move with care. I am incredibly aware that my energy sets the tone for my sessions. My clients feel it, and the bowls feel it too.

Yesterday was my 27th birthday.

27 years ago, I came into this world. In the comfort of my childhood home, on a hot July day. While my mom leaned over a birth ball, surrounded by my dad, close friends, and a midwife.

Every year I would ask my mom to tell me my birth story. I woke her up with contractions at 3am, and her and my dad decided to go for a walk. It was already so humid and sticky, they figured it was the perfect time to get moving before the heat, and the labor ramped up.

She called in her team. Her midwife, who was also 9 months pregnant and having contractions herself. Her best friend, and who I consider her doula. And our neighbor across the street. A close family friend who worked as a NICU nurse.

After 9 hours of steady, and intense labor, I was born at 11:55am. Into the hands of my dad.

They had left my gender a surprise, because my mom chose to opt out of all ultrasounds during her pregnancy. Leaning into the beautiful mystery of it all.

I can only imagine the joy and excitement that filled the room as my purple face emerged, and they found out I was a girl.

My mom chose to have me at home, because 20 months earlier, she had my brother in the hospital. She left like so many women still do. With anger at how she was treated, feeling robbed of the experience she knew birth could be. Violations against her birth plan, her body, and her autonomy, from a doctor that quite literally cared more about his power and authority than he did about the well-being of his patients.

Compared to the chaos, rushing and fear of when my brother was born in the hospital, my birth was calm, peaceful, and redemptive. There was no hurry, there was no one telling her what to do. There was only her team supporting her, and allowing the space for birth to unfold the way that it should.

I have carried this story with me my entire life. Before I even knew how babies were made, I knew I would give birth at home, just like my mom did.

Our sacred forest ceremony will forever be the most magical day of my life 🥹

Every aspect of this ceremony was intentional. From our bare feet on the earth, to the words spoken into our chalices of cacao, to our heart chakra sound bowl sealing our vows.

Sound bowls play a very special role in our love story, and it only felt right to include it in our wedding ceremony.

You’re able to sink deeper into meditation and the sound when you are held by the items you bring 💛

Here is my go to packing list when I attend sound baths!
✨Soft mat to lay on
✨1 or 2 blankets- if your mat isn’t super squishy, bring an extra blanket to lay down on top for extra comfort! And the other is to cover up with of course 😁
✨Pillow- optional, but recommended for additional head support!
✨Eye Mask- also optional, but a great addition if you’re sensitive to light
✨Water- you’ll probably get thirsty 😅
✨Journal- you may want to jot down immediate thoughts or feelings after the sound bath!

Only one week away from the longest day of the year ✨

Here’s what I’m doing to consciously call in this powerful energy 🌞

1. Reflecting on my wins and transformations since the winter solstice- these past 6 months have been the most potent and fruitful yet! Setting the foundations for my business in the season of darkness, and watching all of these seeds bloom as the light returned has been so exciting to witness 🤲🏼🌱🌸

2. Speaking gratitude out loud- taking these reflections and speaking gratitude for each one, thanking the darkness for allowing me to turn inward, thanking the lessons I’ve learned along the way, thanking the flowers for showing me how to bloom, and thanking myself for making it all happen 💛💫

3. Basking in the sun- if the sun is out, you’ll find me in it, but ESPECIALLY this week before the solstice! Sun basking is my favorite way to meditate and connect with the earth. Feeling its warmth and light on my body fills up my cup more than any other practice.

4. Harvest my garden- it’s the perfect time to harvest those overgrown herbs, begin drying them for the winter season, and make floral bouquets to bring life into your home 🏡

5. Set goals for the next 6 months- as the light slowly begins to fade, ask yourself, where do I want to be in the next 6 months? What do I want to accomplish? How do I want to feel? What projects will I tend to without the light to motivate me?

I invite you all to do the same! And if you’d like to celebrate the Solstice with me, I will be at Kindred & Co from 6-9 pm hosting an event to honor the sun surrounded by community!

Nothing has prepared me for motherhood more than nannying 💛

In the past 3.5 years, I have gotten to know and care for over 20 children, every age from 0-14! That’s crazy 😆 interacting with so many different personalities, interests, and parenting styles has been the greatest blessing before I enter into motherhood.

Not only learning how to care for children myself, but also interacting with so many different parenting styles. Taking bits and pieces, slowly gathering the kind of mother I want to be one day. And watching my patience grow with each emotional outburst 🤣

I consider it the highest honor to be trusted with the lives of each and every child. Watching them grow has been one of the greatest joys of my life.

I know this era of my life is coming to a close in the near future as I prepare to go full time into my business and have babies of my own, but damn am I glad I have the experience under my belt to feel like I’m so ready for it all 💛
